What it does not reveal
Your IP address does not carry your name, your home address, or your identity. Nobody looking at it can pull up who you are. Your internet provider can connect an address to an account, but that link requires a legal process to obtain and is not something a website can query. Sites showing your city as proof they know who you are are performing a trick with public data, and the city is often wrong anyway.
Why your own score matters
If you keep hitting blocks, extra verification, or endless captchas on sites that work fine for everyone else, your address is very often the reason. Checking it turns an unexplained wall into a specific, fixable fact: your VPN endpoint is classified, or your provider recycles addresses with history, or you are behind carrier-grade NAT with thousands of strangers.

What is my IP address?
It is shown at the top of this page. It is the public address your internet provider has assigned to your connection, and it is what every website you visit sees. It is usually not permanent: most home connections get a new one periodically, and mobile connections change them often.
Can someone find my location from my IP address?
Approximately, not precisely. Country and region are usually right. City is often wrong, sometimes by hundreds of kilometres, because addresses are commonly registered to a provider's central location rather than to where the customer actually is. Nobody can find your home address from your IP. Your provider knows which account held an address at a given time, and releasing that requires a legal process.
Should I hide my IP address?
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. A VPN replaces your address with a shared one, which hides you from the sites you visit and moves the trust question to the VPN operator instead. It also has a cost: shared VPN endpoints carry other people's behavior, so you will hit more blocks and more captchas. That tradeoff is worth making deliberately rather than by accident.
Why do websites block or challenge my IP address?
Because of what the address has been associated with, not because of anything you did. Shared VPN and proxy endpoints inherit the conduct of every other user on them. Datacenter ranges are assumed to be automation. Recycled addresses carry their previous holder's history. Carrier-grade NAT means you share one address with a great many other subscribers. The result at the top of this page shows which of these applies to you.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.45 and there are not enough of them, which is why providers share them among many customers using carrier-grade NAT. IPv6 addresses are much longer and effectively unlimited, so devices can hold their own. Many connections have both, and which one a site sees depends on how the connection was made.
