Why a site says anonymous proxy detected
That message means the service you were using looked up your address, decided it belongs to anonymizing infrastructure, and refused rather than risk it. It is not an accusation about you personally, and it is very often wrong about you specifically. The usual causes are straightforward.
You are on a VPN
The most common cause by far. Commercial VPN endpoints are shared by thousands of customers, so a handful of abusers is enough to get the whole endpoint classified.
Your address is in a datacenter range
Cloud, hosting, and server ranges are not where ordinary consumers browse from, so traffic from them is treated as automation by default.
Your provider uses carrier-grade NAT
Many mobile and regional providers put large numbers of subscribers behind a small pool of addresses. That looks like a proxy from the outside because, functionally, it behaves like one.
The address has history
Addresses get recycled. The previous holder's behavior sticks to the address, not to them.
What to do if you are being blocked
Turn the VPN off and retry
This resolves it the overwhelming majority of the time and immediately tells you whether the VPN was the cause.
Switch off Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the reverse
It puts you on a completely different address from a different provider, which distinguishes a bad address from a bad account.

What does anonymous proxy detected mean?
The site you were using checked your IP address, concluded it belongs to a proxy, VPN, or similar anonymizing infrastructure, and blocked the connection rather than accept the risk. It is a statement about the address you arrived from, not about anything you did. Because VPN endpoints and datacenter ranges are shared by very large numbers of people, it lands on plenty of users who have done nothing at all.
How do I fix anonymous proxy detected?
Disconnect your VPN and reload, which fixes it most of the time. If you are not on a VPN, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to get an address from a different provider. Check the address on this page first: if it comes back as datacenter or proxy, the block is about your network path, and clearing cookies or changing browser will not help.
How does proxy and VPN detection work?
Several signals in combination. Known VPN and proxy endpoint ranges published by operators and observed in the wild. Whether the address sits in a datacenter or hosting range rather than a consumer one. Reverse DNS naming patterns. Behavior seen by our sensors. And the reputation of the surrounding network. No single signal is conclusive, which is why the result reports what was found rather than a bare yes or no.
Can VPN detection be wrong?
Yes, in both directions. Ordinary consumer addresses can be misread as proxies when a provider uses carrier-grade NAT to put many subscribers behind few addresses. And residential proxy networks route traffic through genuine consumer connections specifically to look ordinary, which is exactly what makes them the hardest category to catch. Any detection service claiming perfect accuracy is overselling.
Should I block all VPN traffic?
Rarely, and almost never on browsing. VPN use is normal among privacy-conscious people, remote workers on corporate tunnels, travelers, and entire countries. Blocking it wholesale costs real customers. The better pattern is to score it and raise friction where the stakes are real, such as account creation, payment, or password reset, rather than at the front door.
