Disposable email, explained.
What is a disposable email address?+
A disposable (temporary / throwaway / burner) email address is a mailbox anyone can create instantly, with no real identity behind it, and abandon minutes later. Services like Mailinator, Guerrilla Mail, and YOPmail hand them out for free, which is why they turn up constantly in fake signups, free-trial abuse, and payment fraud.
Why block disposable emails at signup?+
An address on a throwaway domain almost never belongs to a lasting customer. Blocking or challenging disposable domains stops most fake-account creation, trial-stacking, and card testing before it starts, while real users on Gmail, Outlook, and the like pass through untouched.
Will ffraud ever flag Gmail or Outlook as disposable?+
No. Every major mailbox provider (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, Proton, GMX, Yandex, and dozens more worldwide) sits on a hard allowlist. They are always returned as legitimate, and no data source can ever add them to the disposable list, so you never block a real customer by mistake.
How does ffraud know a domain is disposable?+
The engine aggregates every major public disposable-domain blocklist, refreshed continuously, adds heuristic pattern detection for brand-new burner services, and layers on our own honeypot sensors. Each domain page shows exactly why that domain was flagged.
