Terms of Service

Last updated 7 May 2026 · Plain language, no traps.

What this is

ffraud is a free IP intelligence API operated by Obsidian UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Leopoldstr. 2-8, 32051 Herford, Germany (HRB 20982, Amtsgericht Bad Oeynhausen). You can hit our public endpoint without signing up, or create a free account to get a personal API key with a higher daily limit. There is no paid tier.

By using the service or creating an account you agree to these terms. They're short on purpose. Read the whole thing. See also our Impressum for the full legal entity details.

Acceptable use

You can use ffraud to flag, score, or enrich IP addresses for any lawful purpose. Cache responses on your end. We edge-cache for 5 minutes; you can cache longer. Respect the rate limits of your tier; hitting limits returns 429, not a paywall.

What you can't do

  • Resell access to the API, the underlying data, or any derived database, in bulk or as a competing product. Single-customer integrations and SaaS apps that consume reasonable volumes are fine.
  • Scrape or harvest the entire dataset by enumerating IPs.
  • Use ffraud to target individuals. Physical addresses, dox, harassment, stalking, lawful-interception bypass.
  • Use ffraud where the result determines someone's legal rights without a human in the loop. We are not a credit decision, employment screening, or law-enforcement tool.

Accounts

  • You are responsible for keeping your API key secret. We hash keys server-side; we cannot recover a lost key, only rotate it.
  • One account per person. Sock-puppet accounts to bypass rate limits will be revoked.
  • We may suspend accounts that abuse the service. Denial-of-service patterns, mass bot traffic, attempts to scrape the database.

Reports you submit

Reports submitted via /report (community submissions) are reviewed and may be added to the public threat intelligence database. By submitting a report you confirm:

  • You observed the behavior described.
  • The submission is in good faith.
  • You grant us a non-exclusive license to use the report content as part of the public threat intel feed.

We do not publish your email or personal info without your consent. Only the IP and what you reported it for.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is." We work hard to keep the data fresh and the API up, but we don't guarantee it. Don't use ffraud as the sole decision authority for anything that matters. Payments, bans, lockouts. Our score is a signal, not a verdict.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for damages. Direct, indirect, lost revenue, lost data. Arising from use of the service. Since the service is free, our liability ceiling is limited to what you paid us, which is zero.

Changes

We may update these terms. Changes are posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes are announced via email to registered accounts at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
