Free disposable email APIs compared: 10 detection APIs, their limits, keys and terms

Ten disposable email detection APIs with a free tier, read on one day: checks a month, keys, commercial terms, what each answers, and how to test them yourself.

On this page

We compared ten APIs that detect disposable email addresses and can be used for free. Eight of them state a monthly quota, from 100 to 3,000 checks (each vendor's own page, read November 3, 2026). MXCheck and API Ninjas allow the most, 3,000 a month, but API Ninjas' free plan rules out commercial use. FFraud's public check needs no key and has no daily or monthly cap. For a sign-up form, the terms matter as much as the quota.

FFraud publishes this page and is the first API below. Every other vendor's terms are quoted from its own page as we read it on November 3, 2026. FFraud's limits are stated here as plainly as theirs.

#Which free disposable email APIs did we compare?

We picked ten APIs that flag disposable addresses and offer standing free use, without a trial clock. For each one, we read the vendor's pricing or product page and took its free quota, key and terms in its own words. We opened no accounts, so each quota is the vendor's statement.

One note on the search itself. Six of the nine results Google showed us for "disposable email api" on November 3 were services that create throwaway inboxes, for testing and the like. This page covers the other kind, the APIs that detect them.

#What does each free tier include?

FFraud

FFraud's public email check answers 20 fields per address. Among them are is_disposable, detection_source, mx_found, is_alias_service and did_you_mean for typos. It needs no key and has no daily or monthly cap, only a burst limit of hundreds of requests per second for each IP address. Cross it and you get a 429 that clears on its own.

Answers without a key come from an edge cache for up to 5 minutes. The list behind the check held 224,885 domains on November 3. It is a free download on GitHub under the MIT license, so you can also check addresses on your own server. The free temporary email API page shows a live call, and the rate limits are documented.

MXCheck

MXCheck gives 3,000 free requests a month, counted as 100 per 24-hour window, with a free key and no card. One call checks syntax, MX records, disposable domains and typos. It also flags free providers such as Gmail. Paid plans start at $9 a month for 5,000 requests.

API Ninjas

API Ninjas' disposable email checker answers three fields: the email, its domain and is_disposable. Its free plan allows 3,000 calls a month, at most 100 an hour. The pricing page reserves that plan for "evaluation and demo purposes only". It bars commercial use and requires attribution. The cheapest plan for commercial use costs $59 a month, or $39 a month paid yearly.

EmailProbe

EmailProbe gives 2,500 free validations a month, without a card. Its sample answer carries a score, a verdict, is_disposable and is_free_provider. It also checks the domain's MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. EmailProbe says it tracks more than 202,000 domains.

Block Temporary Email

Block Temporary Email gives 1,000 requests a month, at 1 request per second, to anyone with an account. Its answer is short: the domain, temporary and dns. The next plan costs $20 a month for 20,000 requests.

Disposable Email API

The Disposable Email Checker API at disposableemailapi.com gives 1,000 requests a month with a key. Its sample answer adds is_alias and a risk_score to is_disposable. It claims more than 100,000 disposable domains. Its Pro plan costs $19 a month for 100,000 requests.

Reoon

Reoon Email Verifier gives 20 free credits a day, up to 600 a month. It says the free plan includes every feature, the API among them. Reoon checks the mailbox itself with an SMTP handshake, so an answer covers more than the domain.

Temp Mail Detector

Temp Mail Detector gives 200 lookups a month that reset monthly, without a card. It checks the domain alone, so your users' full addresses never leave your server. Its answer gives the domain a score and adds its age, whether its website resolves and whether it accepts every address.

ZeroBounce

ZeroBounce gives 100 free verifications a month, but only to accounts opened with a business or premium email domain. It is a full email validation service: one credit checks one address, by bulk upload or through the real-time API. Paid credits start at $39 for 2,000 verifications.

Abstract API

Abstract API gives 100 free requests without a card, and its page does not say whether they renew. One answer covers syntax, MX records, SMTP deliverability, catch-all mailboxes and disposable domains. The disposable flag is is_disposable_email.

#What did a published test of disposable email checkers find?

In October 2026, WhoisXML API tested 14 disposable email checkers. It created 59 addresses at 21 throwaway email services and added 6 ordinary addresses as controls. Two checkers caught all 59 without flagging a legitimate address: WhoisXML's own commercial database and one other API.

Five of the ten APIs above took part. Temp Mail Detector caught 52 of the 59, but it also flagged a real address on a year-old .dev domain. EmailProbe caught 51. FFraud's list and Reoon caught 50 each, or 84.7 percent. ZeroBounce caught 37 and missed all three 10 Minute Mail addresses.

The misses tell the story. Every checker caught Temp-Mail.org, Mail.tm and YOPmail, and most caught the other famous services. Five small providers caused 125 of the 170 misses. So coverage of small, new services is what sets one list apart from another. Read any vendor's comparison with care, this one included: the publisher's own database came first in its own test.

A domain that no list names yet often shares its mail server with domains that are listed. In FFraud's data, two in three throwaway domains added in October 2026 used a mail server that already served older ones. And 64.8 percent of throwaway domains with a mail server use one of just 100 servers. That is why FFraud's check reads the mail server as well. The numbers behind it are free to check.

#Which free API fits your sign-up form?

  • A commercial product. Read the terms before the quota. API Ninjas' free plan bars commercial use, and ZeroBounce's free credits need a business email to sign up.
  • No account and no key. FFraud's public check answers without either. Call it from your server, since anyone can skip a check that runs in the browser.
  • The mailbox as well as the domain. Reoon and Abstract API test the mailbox itself over SMTP, which also catches dead addresses.
  • Privacy. Temp Mail Detector needs only the domain. FFraud's list runs on your own server with no call at all.
  • The most free checks. FFraud has no monthly cap. Among the keyed tiers, MXCheck and API Ninjas allow the most, 3,000 a month.
  • Code. Our guides add the check to Next.js and Express, Django, Laravel and WordPress.

#How to test a disposable email API before you choose

  1. Make 20 or more fresh addresses at small throwaway services as well as famous ones. Small services are where checkers differ.
  2. Add real addresses as controls: a Gmail address, a company address and one on a new small domain.
  3. Run every address through each API on the same day. Count the throwaway addresses each one misses and the real ones it flags.
  4. Run the test again a month later. Throwaway services add new domains all the time.
curl
curl https://api.ffraud.com/public/email/check \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"email":"jane@yopmail.com"}'

The disposable email checker runs the same check in a browser. The email check documentation lists every field, and detection_source says why an address was flagged.

#What does this comparison leave out?

We did not test detection ourselves. The results quoted above are WhoisXML's, from 59 addresses on one day. We opened no accounts, so each quota is the vendor's own statement. Paid plans and list-cleaning suites are out of scope.

Other services give free credits too. Verifalia gives 25 verifications a day, and its site says it is updating the terms of that free plan. Emailable gives 250 credits once, and MailTester 100 credits that never expire. Every figure on this page is from November 3, 2026, and free tiers change often.

#Questions people ask

What is the best free disposable email detection API?

It depends on your volume and your terms. FFraud's public check has no key and no monthly cap. MXCheck and API Ninjas allow 3,000 checks a month, but API Ninjas' free plan bars commercial use. Test two or three on your own sign-ups before you choose.

Is there a free API to check if an email is disposable?

Yes, several. FFraud's public email check answers without a key or an account: send the address and read is_disposable. Most others give a free monthly quota behind a key.

Can I use a free email validation API in a commercial product?

Often, but read the terms first. API Ninjas' free plan is for evaluation and demos only, and it requires attribution. FFraud's list is MIT licensed, which allows commercial use.

What happens when I go over a free API's quota?

That depends on the vendor, so read its terms. API Ninjas says requests are "simply denied" once you hit the monthly quota. FFraud has no quota, and a burst over its limit gets a 429 that clears on its own.

How accurate are disposable email checkers?

In WhoisXML's test of October 2026, 14 checkers caught between 30 and 59 of 59 throwaway addresses. Nearly all caught the famous services, and small new ones decided the ranking. Test on addresses from small services before you trust any number.
